FOUNDER
A Karur Girl. I have always admired the buildings around the villages of Karur,Tamilnadu which were built using mud, clay and lime. The Zeal for architecture and the principles behind that pushed me to pursue Civil Engineering.
To learn more about the vernacular architecture, I have traveled to Pollachi in Tamil Nadu, Attapadi in Kerala, Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh, Mamarutam, Jangaon in Telangana over a period of 2 years. This gave me a perspective of how elegantly the constructions were done using different vernacular methods. It was knowledge bounty hunting years of mine. I have travelled to multiple villages whose names I have never heard of, spoke to the people in those places in the languages that I don’t know, humbled by the generosity of their ideas, techniques, and brilliance in their efficiency.Those experiences inspired me to start my own Vernacular construction firm NILALIN in the year 2018.
I am an instructor for sustainable enthusiasts ,engineers & architects on practicing builds. Our team hosts hands-on events at Organic forum to encourage & share the knowledge on Sustainable Architecture. We are into educational stream to teach the young minds on sustainable models that fosters spatial play & nurture a child’s dexterity as well as cognitive skills.

He is deeply committed to Nilalin and Marutam .He is leading the way in pioneering innovations in bamboo and mud construction, bringing traditional knowledge and modern techniques together.His contribution extends to teaching in our workshops, where he shares his rich knowledge and traditional skills. Through this, he ensures that the legacy of his craft thrives for generations to come, blending sustainability with education.

Sumitra Amma is a skilled artisan in earthen murals, bringing her artistry to life with natural materials. She enriches our kitchen garden by sharing her traditional farming techniques, seamlessly integrating sustainable practices. Additionally, she plays a vital role in nurturing the Marutam Learning Centre, where her dedication to preserving and passing on knowledge shines through.
